2015 Huge Google Mobile Search Update

2015 Huge Google Mobile Search Update

Starting April 21st Google will demote your website in mobile search results if it’s not up to mobile design standards. If your website is ranking for every term under the sun, but not mobile friendly, you’re in trouble.

On the other hand, if your site is responsive, you’re in good shape and will most likely see a bump in your search rankings, and in turn your search traffic.

This change reflects the skyrocketing usage of mobile and tablet use. In the last four years, mobile searches have increased 394% and tablet usage a whopping 1,721%, according to comScore.

How Can You Tell if Your Site is Mobile Friendly?

Other than viewing it on your mobile phone or tablet, start by testing to see how friendly your website is for mobile users.

What can you do if your website is not mobile friendly?

Google provides advice based on running the test. But I recommend that you contact a web developer that you trust that has a team proficient in responsive website design and mobile website development. There are a number of tools on the market where you can attempt the change on your own, but if not setup properly, this could be more detrimental to your search rankings than Google’s penalty.
